Hyperbaric medicine
Hyperbaric medicine uses increased atmospheric pressure as a treatment method. This commonly involves hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), to provide increased amounts of oxygen to the body and reinforce healing.
Hyperbaric medicine in Greater Chattanooga, Tennessee
If your body needs help to fight off infections or speed up the natural recovery process, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a great option.
Parkridge Health System offers HBOT, a noninvasive technique that helps your body repair tissue and restore optimal function. The healing occurs as you sit or lie quietly, by breathing pure oxygen inside our comfortable hyperbaric chamber.
Conditions we treat with HBOT
HBOT accelerates the healing process by efficiently increasing the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream and tissues. We use HBOT to treat conditions, including:
- Acute traumatic injuries
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Crush injuries
- Decompression sickness
- Diabetic wounds
- Necrotizing soft tissue infections
- Nonhealing wounds
- Osteomyelitis
- Radiation tissue injuries
- Skin grafts and flaps
Our hyperbaric medicine services
HBOT creates a highly oxygenated environment in your body, enabling it to more easily build new blood vessels, neutralize free radicals and resist infection.
What to expect during HBOT
During hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), you breathe 100% oxygen while under pressure, causing oxygen to saturate blood plasma to 20 times the normal level. This process allows oxygenated blood to be delivered four times farther into diseased tissue than by breathing air alone. Creating a highly oxygenated environment builds new blood vessels, decreases painful edema, and invigorates healing mechanisms while killing harmful bacteria and neutralizing tissue-destroying oxygen free radicals.
