Wanda Nelson came to Parkridge Medical Center hoping to volunteer after accompanying her husband to the hospital.

You may have seen her at the front desk greeting incoming patients, getting information for families, and delivering items. However, what is not seen is the huge heart she possesses.

“I enjoy it all,” she says about volunteering. “I pray every day to be of help to somebody.”

This is the first time she has volunteered at a hospital, but she has taken to it well and loves what she gets to do.

Recently, a gentleman came to her frustrated that he wasn’t able to find the correct location in the hospital and she was able to point him in the right direction quickly, with the help of some colleagues, and it’s good because he ended up needing emergency surgery. He later came back to thank Wanda for her assistance.

It’s good to be a part of something bigger than yourself, she shares. She adds how delightful it is to be at a place where everyone, from colleagues to volunteers are kind and courteous.

Thank you, Wanda and all our volunteers, for caring like family!
