CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga residents now have access to advanced imaging technology at Parkridge Medical Center following the recent installation of a state-of-the-art 3T MRI.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to take very highly detailed, three-dimensional images of the human body. With Parkridge Medical Center’s 3T MRI technology and even higher detailed imaging capabilities, physicians have the ability to make more accurate diagnoses. This means medical conditions may be treated sooner, improving a patient’s chances of recovery.

“The 3T’s high-quality scanning capability also decreases the need for additional more invasive vascular and musculoskeletal procedures,” said Parkridge Health System Market Director of Imaging Services Keith Davis. “Patients can expect a more comfortable scan experience with the 3T’s shorter scan time and a patient platform that conforms to the body in order to alleviate pressure points.”

During some procedures using the 3T MRI, patients may be able to enter the system feet-first instead of head-first, which may lessen the individual’s claustrophobic feelings that can be associated with all MRI’s. In addition, the system is near a special window that provides natural lighting and creates more of a feeling of openness during the procedure, yet still provides the patient with privacy.

“The 3T machine maximizes comfort without compromising quality,” Davis said “We’re excited to offer this highly advanced technology that benefits both patients and physicians.”
