CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness month, Parkridge Medical Center is hosting a free prostate screening for eligible men on September 15th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Diagnostic Center adjacent to the main hospital.
In order to be eligible for the free prostate screening, participants must be age 50 or older, or between the ages of 45 and 50 with a significant risk factor such as a family history of prostate cancer. Men who have been previously diagnosed with or treated for prostate cancer are not eligible to participate in the screening. Pre-registration is required in order to attend this event.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers for men. African American men and those with significant family history of the disease are most at risk for developing the condition. Prostate cancer has the best chance for successful treatment when detected early, and it is recommended that men discuss prostate screening with their physician beginning at age 50 to determine if screening is appropriate. Men who fall into a high-risk category are advised to consult with a physician about prostate screening beginning at age 45.
