CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - On March 1, Parkridge Medical Center’s cafeteria is rolling out an updated look and a new healthy eating program – and there’s even an app for it.

Parkridge’s “Mindful” program is connected to the popular MyFitnessPal calorie-counting and weight-loss application for smartphones. Patrons who have downloaded the app can now scan barcodes on all cafeteria selections and send dietary information about each of their meal choices directly to their MyFitness Pal account.

“The MyFitnessPal tool is used by many people to keep an accurate record of their caloric intake,” notes April Maynard, Parkridge Dietary Services Director. “We are excited to be able to offer this service to our diners who are actively working toward health and weight-loss goals.”

The “Mindful” program will offer patrons a wide variety of new lower-sodium, lower-calorie entree and dessert options. As part of the new initiative, the hospital cafeteria underwent a ‘mini-makeover’ that included new serving dishes, décor and signage, as well as new uniforms for employees.

“The new look is designed to be easier to understand, with icons and nutrition education elements that help patrons make healthier selections,” says Maynard. “It’s all about empowering people to make those healthier choices.”
