Benefits of Free-Standing Emergency Rooms

Parkridge Health's growing network of Free-Standing Emergency Rooms provide emergency care to over almost 10,000 patients just in 2021, when traditional hospital emergency rooms weren't able to provide care. These facilities provide diagnostic and treatment services, comprehensive laboratory services and state-of-the-art imaging capabilities. With the same quality of care and accreditation standards as a hospital-based ER, free-standing ERs are able to see patients faster than traditional emergency rooms. This can mean the difference between life and death for someone experiencing a medical crisis but lives too far from a traditional hospital to seek treatment.

Once approved, we expect to begin work fairly immediately. We anticipate completion in 2024.

We don’t want to disrupt the quiet solitude of Soddy-Daisy. Sirens from emergency vehicles coming to this FSED will be turned off at U.S. 27— before approaching the facility or neighborhoods. Most ambulance transports to hospital emergency rooms do not use lights and sirens, and the percentage would be even lower for a free-standing ER. Lights and sirens are reserved for responses to potential emergencies and transporting patients with immediate, life-threatening emergencies.

The good news is that Free Standing ERs do not result in uncontrollable traffic issues. The typical traffic around a full-scale hospital won’t be of concern here, as this Free Standing ER is an emergency room only. But we will work with the City of Soddy-Daisy to monitor the situation in case additional solutions are needed so that this help doesn’t become a headache for the community.

As a tax paying entity, Parkridge Health will be contributing to the Soddy-Daisy community. We want to put a stake in the ground, become part of the community and invest in this new project that helps residents of Soddy-Daisy and surrounding communities.

Yes, we've already purchased this property. We've wanted to move into Soddy-Daisy for some time and this is an ideal location for emergency healthcare because it is accessible by car and ambulance when you need it most.

This freestanding ER will remain just that: a free-standing ER. It’s meant to serve as an extension of the Parkridge Medical Center ER downtown to provide that immediate emergency care when you need it. For all other needs or longer-term care, you will be able to see specialists or be admitted to your hospital of choice elsewhere. There are no plans to make this site into a full hospital or anything other than a free-standing emergency room.
